Hi, another post, I have an "early" car (#94) and unless something is missing, the roof panel just slides into the trunk (tight squeeze but it fits) with no guidance. I saw a video of a later car and there seemed to be some kind of "RAILS" which would make it much easier to just slide the roof into place and secure it.

Can these rails be added to an early car? Or if all cars had them, can replacement rails be obtained to make it easier for me to fit the roof panel into the trunk?

The assist rails for the top were installed in later vehicles approx after #180. We changed the design of the rear body section and gave the "drain gutter" less slope. You cannot fit the rails in earlier vehicles unless major body work is done.

You can ratchet that rail addition/modification down to at least #176. Still, it takes a deft hand to get the roof in without hitting the rear corners on the trunk lip. I suspect that Ian practiced a bit before filming the video for Youtube
